Remedial Massage targets the specific muscles responsible for your pain. It lengthens tight muscles, & helps break down any adhesions (knots) that affect your movement. The aim is to reduce & prevent pain, helping your body move freely & efficiently. I don’t just treat painful spots, but look at finding what other muscles have been stressed & contribute to the pain. Eg. when treating upper back pain I massage the arms, pectoral (chest), neck muscles & the lower back. For low back pain I treat the deep abdominal (stomach) muscles, gluteal (buttocks) muscles, thighs & calves. This can be painful in the initial treatment, especially if you’ve had the condition for a while, but it is not about “beating” the muscles – it is a combination of introductory strokes, deep tissue techniques (including trigger point release), & positional release (stretching out the knots in tight muscles, reminding them of their function). I use a water dispersible carrier oil that protects your clothes (& my linen!) from developing oily smells. Aromatherapy oils are available to enhance your treatment – bergamot, cedarwood, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, orange, lemon, peppermint.
