Jane Watson

Sydney North Shore Sports,
Spinal & Paediatric Physiotherapist

Jane’s emphasis is on personalised treatment based on thorough assessment of the presenting problem, taking into account each patient’s needs, lifestyle and expectations.

Jane graduated from Cumberland College of Health Sciences in 1978. Since then she spent many years working in rehabilitation of neurological and orthopaedic conditions before moving to private practice in 1998.

Since graduating Jane has completed many post graduate courses including becoming Credentialed in McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy which can be used in the assessment and treatment of spinal and extremity problems. Jane is presently undertaking a Masters Programme, through Sydney University, in Pain Medicine to further her knowledge on Chronic Pain, which now affects 1 in 5 Australians.

With over 20 years experience she is competent in treating spinal pain, joint problems, sports injuries, neurological conditions, movement impairment disorders and paediatric conditions.

She has a special interest in the treatment of neck and back pain in adults and children using the McKenzie Method. It is based on active patient involvement and education. It is time and cost effective for the patient and used world wide by therapists who have undergone specialist training.

Her personalised approach to treatment enables her to choose the appropriate exercise programme and/or management advice for people of all age groups who are experiencing pain or movement dysfunction. Years of experience and a thorough subjective and objective assessment gives her the ability to diagnose and classify the underlying condition and then formulate a treatment plan. If the patient will not benefit from mechanical therapy, advice will be given about other more appropriate forms of treatment, investigations and management.

Jane has extensive experience with children and infants who may present with musculo- skeletal or neurological problems. Exercise/management programmes for babies and infants requires involvement of parents and caregivers.

Testimonials

“I am currently 23 and had been suffering with chronic thoracolumbar pain for five years. Within 4 sessions of seeing Jane, my pain had almost gone! More importantly, she helped train my body to regain function and mobility to a level where I am now able to work and exercise freely. Before seeing her, my condition had become so bad and fatiguing that I was severely depressed, anxious and confused.

I had seen different health professionals but none of them really helped me. They didn’t realize that the chronic pain was predominantly arising from my fear of performing certain movements and not from the underlying pathology. I had become so guarded and conscious of my apparently ‘weak’ spine that I refused to engage in any activities, this just contributed pain and de-conditioning. Jane helped me regain confidence in my body and now I am moving naturally and freely without pain. She was able to clarify, with expert insight, what was going on in my body and help me fix it!

In short, I would encourage anyone with chronic pain (whatever the cause) to see Jane. She changed my life for the better and for that I am sincerely thankful. Thank you Jane!”

“Jane was invaluable to the recovery of both mine and my teenager son’s lower spinal injuries. We both saw her, on separate occasions, under emergency circumstances whilst in acute pain. Jane’s physiotherapy treatment was highly effective. Her informative advice for the ongoing management of our issues was integral to our rehabilitation. Jane is an extremely professional, knowledgeable, as well as friendly and caring medical practitioner who we feel very fortunate to have been referred to and treated by.”

“In only 5 sessions Jane taught me exercises that have completely cured the lower-pain discomfort that I have lived with for 5yrs.”

“After long periods of lower back pain, various doctors and x-rays I was referred to Jane Watson, Physiotherapist. As a result I cannot begin to describe how elated and thrilled I was when my back pain had completely disappeared after my first appointment.

I have to admit I was skeptical at first as I had already been to other physiotherapists. However after seeing Jane and following through with the recommended exercises at home I was eager to get to my second appointment to let Jane know how well they had worked and how great I had started to feel.

So now armed with on going practical advice I am pain free and relieved to feel normal again. Thank you Jane.”

“I would like to speak of my experience with Jane Watson, Physiotherapist. After hurting my back in March 2010, I had been on what seemed an endless cycle of terrible pain as well as visits to doctors to try and get some relief and sense of what was going on, all without success. I was referred by an Orthopaedic Surgeon to Jane after a decision was made that surgery was not the appropriate option.

When I first visited her she spoke with me at length about the nature of my pain and assessed my level of function which at that time was almost nil. I was very frightened. She reassured me then gave me some simple exercises I would do at home or at work to decrease pain and improve function. As time has progressed, my pain has relieved to a level where it is very manageable and I am now back doing a number of things that I honestly believed would never be achievable again. Jane has enabled me to be aware of things that hinder my progress and empowered me to be able to help myself.

I wholeheartedly endorse the work of Jane Watson and would be happy to discuss my experience should you request so from Jane.”
