The hairdressing industry is one of the most common, but unique industries in the world. It is one of the only professions to be practiced in almost every society and has been adapted to suit every corner of the globe.

With 99.9% of the human race growing hair, it is no wonder that the hairdressing industry has thrived for centuries.

Having this in mind, Tammy Garratt began her career at the tender age of 14. Tammy worked alongside her boss, a strong and determined barber who taught her the foundations of hair. Once qualified, Tammy asked, but was denied a $25 a week pay rise. She was told by her boss that the only way she could have this was to open her own salon, and that is when the doors to Checkers in Kambah opened.

This was a small suburban salon owned and operated by the then 19 year old. After a few short years, Tammy needed more of a challenge, by closing Checkers she opened her own branded salon, TG’s Hair Studio located in Fyshwick. This would eventually become a Canberra icon.

TG’s Hair Studio hit the ground running. It became the place to go as the location of the salon was perfect for the working man. TG’s kept their edge by being customer focused. This was done by investing a lot of time and money in education and training for all staff and also by using the most powerful tool, advertising. Advertising on the local radio and appearing in Canberra magazines kept the TG’s name alive.

In 2001, TG’s Hair Studio expanded into its second salon, TG’s at the Park. This is located in nearby Jerrabomberra. Opening in a suburban area brought along a whole new line of clientele. TG’s at the Park’s main focus became all about the family.

A short time later, Tammy opened her 3rd salon. TG’s Hair and Body was created and is located in the heart of Canberra, Civic. For the first time, Tammy incorporated beauty as one of the services TG’s Hair and Body offers. The idea behind a combined hair and body salon is to tailor the needs to the professional men and women working in the city

. To provide both services to a client in the one place, helps promote time management within their busy working schedule. And a little indulgence goes along way.

TG’s is well know for our expertise and creativity in fashion, cutting and colouring for hair which has made us stand out from the rest and has been important in our success for the last 16 years!

Extensions we use at TG’s Hair Studio are from Showpony Professional. Available are tape, beaded and clip in extensions in all different colours and lengths. All hair is human, remy hair.
