About Us

We are a multi-disciplinary allied health clinic, comprised of a team of health practitioners who are skilled, enthusiastic and love what they do.  We work as individuals or as a team to help you achieve your optimum health and vibrancy.

ACCREDITATION

All our practitioners are fully qualified and registered with the government registration agency AHPRA.  Osteopaths must complete a 5 year masters science degree and complete standardised government examinations in order to be registered.  All our osteopaths provide consultations which are claimable on private health HICAPS if your policy includes osteopathy.   Likewise, acupuncture and chinese medicine require at least 4 years university study and registration exams for qualification and registration, as well as extensive supervised clinical practice in order to be registered by AHPRA.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE (HICAPS)

All our osteopaths and acupuncturists are covered by private health insurance.  This will apply to you only if your policy covers you for the type of treatment, usually part of your “extras” coverage.  Best to give them a call and check your policy if you are unsure.  Not all of our massage therapists are covered by private health, so if this is important to you, please ask at the time of booking to see someone who is covered by your health insurance.  All osteopaths, and most other practitioners are claimable on the HICAPS system in our clinic, which allows you to claim on the spot.  Massage is not on the NSW HICAPS system yet, so we will supply you with a receipt that you can send into your health fund subsequent to your visit with us.

WORKCOVER AND THIRD PARTY INSURANCE

All our osteopaths are also registered with Workcover NSW and are therefore able to take on any Workcover cases, however a claim number will be required from your insurance agency.  We will liase with your work cover case officer, your insurance agency, and your GP and work as a team to get you back on your feet as soon as possible.  Give us a call if you have any questions about this process.  Likewise any third party insurance cases are also commonly handled in our clinic,.  If possible, please bring the claim approval paperwork on your first visit with us, as well as any important information such as the date of injury and name of insurance company.

MEDICARE AND THE EPC PROGRAM

If your GP has provided you with an EPC program, we can also take care of you at Restore.  Many of our chronic patients have been referred to us by local GP’s and their treatment is partially covered by Medicare.  If you unsure of whether you are an appropriate candidate for this program, have a chat to your GP and see whether this could be the answer for you.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT & PARKING

We are less than 50m from St Leonards train station, and its major bus terminal.  Our patients also find that there is usually no problem parking out front of the clinic on Chandos Street which is metered 2 hours parking.   At the north end of Chandos street there is also Chandos Street Council Carpark which is a large carpark next to the train line only 50 metres from the clinic entrance.

HELP IS ALWAYS AT HAND

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.  Emma our practice manager, and Sandra our receptionist are here to help.  You can also email us at:  hello@restorewellness.com.au at any time.

Tom first developed an interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine through his practice of Chinese kung fu. Chinese Medicine and Chinese kung fu share philosophies of balance, harmony and respect for the self and the natural world. Tom incorporates these complementary principles in his treatments to promote healthy and balanced lifestyles. Tom draws on Chinese Medicine’s holistic approach to treating disease, focusing on both addressing the cause and treating the symptoms of a disease or condition.  Tom finds this framework of treating to be the most effective and has fine tuned his skills on numerous trips to China, visiting Chinese Medicine Hospitals.

Tom has recently become involved in a newly-established community acupuncture program, providing affordable acupuncture services to the local community as well as speaking at community events and wellness forums and allied health events.

Massage:
Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain. It is a clinically-oriented health option that achieves undeniable results in the relief of an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes.

At Restore we offer Remedial Massage, Relaxation Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Hot Stone Massage and finally Lymphatic Drainage Massage.  It is a wonderful combination of therapeutic and relaxing, and wonderful for your health.  Please be aware that the only form of massage that is covered by most private health funds is Remedial Massage.

Remedial Massage

When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage uses several specialised techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms. The massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually oil, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves are also used.

Key benefits of Remedial Massage include: the stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation.

Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include Fibrositis, Spondylitis, Arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, Whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries

As extensive study is involved in being registered as a Remedial Massage Therapist, this is the only form of massage which is covered by private health insurance.

Pregnancy Massage

We tend to think of massage as a treat, or a great indulgence for relaxation and stress relief in our lives, however it is also an important form of health therapy, especially during pregnancy.

Reduced swelling in hands and feet
Minimise back pain
increases circulation
Ease muscular discomfort in legs, neck, and other areas of the body
Reduces problems with insomnia
Strengthens immune system
Helps alleviate anxiety or depression
It increases blood flow to our tissues, and reduces swelling and inflammation.   It is particularly helpful for swollen feet, aching backs and assisting our skin and fascia to stretch and adapt as we grow.  This reduces the likelihood of stretch marks and discomfort in our growing bellies, as well as reducing the chance of abdominal muscle separation in pregnancy.

At Restore we have a special pregnancy massage table which allows you to lie on your stomach, whilst your belly is supported.  It is truly delightful in those advanced stages on pregnancy, to once again lie on your belly!

Hot Stone Massage

Enhance your remedial massage by adding hot stones. In this treatment, heated basalt stones are used to massage the body in long sweeping strokes inspired by Hawaiian lomi lomi in combination with remedial techniques in areas most needed. The stones provide deep heat which increases blood flow to the tissues and promote a deeper release more easily. The heat from the stones create a wonderful sense of relaxation which may help relieve stress, insomnia and chronic pain. It is a great nurturing treatment and is beneficial at any time of the year.  Hot stone massage in not suitable during pregnancy and in conditions involving loss of sensation in limbs or skin irritations.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

A light relaxing treatment done in a specific sequence which aims at returning excess lymph and toxins which have accumulated in tissues back into circulation to be eliminated. If you suffer from oedema, whether it is chronic such as with lymphoedema or results from injury or surgery, manual lymphatic drainage may help reduce swelling, inflammation, pain and speed up recovery.  It can assist in detoxifying the body and getting over infections like colds, sinus congestion and associated headaches when you can’t seem to shake them off. A great way to improve sluggishness brought on by improper diet or lack of activity and illness and to boost your immune system.  It may also help with joint pain, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, and give dull or acne prone ski a glow over time by removing toxins below the skin.  Lymphatic drainage is contraindicated in some conditions.  Give us a call if in doubt.
